If that apple had fallen beside the head of Isaac Newton, would we now be conscious of gravity? Of course it’s not right to exclude such an essential phenomenon, but gravity is not as self-evident as it seems. The idea that the earth revolves began with Galileo in 1610 and that of gravity in 1687. In that in-between period it would not have been that daft to suppose there was a force that pushed bodies away from the earth, the centrifugal force. Truly a missed opportunity for the Church as then they could have 'proved' that you could be slung into heaven.
Dolphins don't do religion and are superbly aware of gravity. In terms of learning effect by personal experience humans try not to fall and avoid the experience of gravity. Dolphins, however, can jump out of the water to their heart's content, as it doesn't hurt to fall back into it. Moreover, they experience gravity in its totality: under water they are virtually weightless and above it they weigh the full 100%.
But there is another way in which the dolphin experiences gravity. At the surface everything that stands out is subject to it. This is an effort she can easily make and which she uses as an extra push for diving. I once saw Dusty chasing a fish. She came high in the water before targeting the fish. It didn't stand a chance.
Some species of whales at diving let their fluke come above the water. Thanks to their momentum it takes less effort to bring their fluke above the water than the extra push this yields.
We should be grateful to Isaac Newton. He has made us conscious of the inevitable. That is good. It’s the same as in Archimede:
Water
I lay me
in the arms of gravity
and as I float
my body beams.
What joy
to be a dolphin boy,
I wouldn't know
of any sweeter joy.
I believe that doing empowers your thinking and thinking effects what you feel. By doing good you can control your own life: by doing good you feel good. This I call Goodism. Politically viewed this is an administration that enables everyone to do what they're good at.
The impact of gravity on water you can minimalise by diving as streamlined as possible. Unless of course you want to play 'cannonball'.
