Dolphin Address 05
January 14th 2007
In the last two editions we have focussed upon the threat that an excess of worldsea can be for the land. Here I want to draw attention to a phenomenon that is less obvious.
The polar ice that will melt further will have a saline percentage that is considerably lower than the present.
On the whole this will recede in the seas of the world. As a consequence, as Archimedes, again, has taught us, the volume displaced by ships will weigh less, so ships will lay deeper in the water.
The entire world fleet shall have to be renovated gradually in order not to be sunk by flooding waves or use quite a bit more fuel on the same trajectories because of increasing water resistance.
Moreover therefore attention will be given to alternative and more saving methods of transport. In particular the fact that floating bodies will be deeper in the water makes the propulsion I experimented with last summer with my cone
B-O-A-T of economical interest.
Because a larger amount of water will be above the drive-wing this will give more propulsive power in the heaving
and balance the pushing down into a more stabile progression.
Finally the savings on transport, and specifically there, where energy usage is concerned, will contribute to a cleaner environment and perhaps again to the freezing over of the Poles. I dare anyone here to accuse me of pessimism. Also such happening would take thousands of years and meanwhile other cosmic rhythms and events can cause even more serious problems. I’d like here to quote my psychiatrist: ‘Let’s for the time being take one day at the time, Mr. Ploeg’. I have no choice but to straiten my jacket here.
